We Thought You’d Be Further In Life (after Venus de Milo)
66x130 cm / 26x51 in
Pencil and oil stick on paper, 2026
This work explores the weight of expectations and the unsettling feeling of having fallen short of what others imagined we could become. Referencing the Venus de Milo, the fragmented figure carries the burden of inherited ideals, passed through generations as measures of success, worth, and unfulfilled potential. Yet the disappointment expressed in the title has no certain speaker. What begins as the voice of family or society gradually becomes our own, questioning whether we have made enough of our abilities, opportunities, and the life we have been given.
